Whitwick councillor says a court date has been set to address 'unauthorised encampment'

By Graham Hill 29th Jun 2021

Whitwick councillor Tony Gillard says that steps are being taken against an 'unauthorised encampment' in Brooks Lane.

Cllr Gillard has posted a message on social media saying that a court date has been set in July to petition for an injunction against the encampment.

He posted: "Residents will know for some time now there has been an unauthorised encampment at 36, Brooks Lane, Whitwick.

"Work has been going on diligently in the background to ensure that the problems surrounding the encampment are addressed.

"At the same time councillors have been provided with legal advice that we must be exceptionally guarded about any comments we make, as these could jeopardise the legal process - something none of us wants.

"At this point, I am pleased to be able to tell you that a court date has been set for later next month to petition the judge for an injunction against the encampment.

"The granting of an injunction will mean that enforcement action can be taken if necessary.

"Obviously I will keep you updated with as much information as legal advice allows me to."
