Coalville's Hinckley & Rugby Building Society has confirmed it will be staying in the town as part of the new Marlborough Square redevelopment.

The new look square officially opens on Friday (August 23) with the first weekly market from 8am-4pm, and a family fun day on Saturday (August 24) between 10am – 4pm.

At the same time, the Hinckley & Rugby says it loves Coalville's regeneration, while committing to the area.

Some banks and building societies have left Coalville in recent years, but the Hinckley & Rugby has had a presence in Coalville for 127 years, and says it is here to stay.

Chief Executive, Barry Carter, said: "The Society has always been proud to provide its communities with friendly, face-to-face service, and is committed to its continued presence in Coalville.

"Although the cashless generation largely prefers a purely digital experience, building societies still play a vital role on the high street."

Branch manager, Tracey Phipps, added: "Many people still prefer a personal, face-to-face relationship, and are on first-name terms with Society staff.

"And although a lot of our members are embracing our own digital offering, many others prefer to have a passbook and to pop in for a chat while topping up their savings. It's part of what community life is all about!"

She says the regeneration of Marlborough Square, part of a broader Regeneration Framework of improvements for the town, is an exciting prospect.

Tracey said: "We've been enthusiastic about this important project from the very beginning, and just as the Local Authority is investing in the town, so is Hinckley & Rugby through our support for local community projects.

"We're here to support Coalville and its community to build a better financial future."
