Work on the new Marlborough Square development in Coalville town centre is well under way - you can find out more about the progress being made HERE.

North West Leicestershire District Council wants it to be an open event space for the town to last beyond the next 100 years.

But the inspiration for the development came from how the square used to look a century or more ago.

The council has spoken to the Coalville Heritage Society to find out more about this area of the town.

A series of videos has been made with Stuart Warburton and Steve Duckworth, from the Heritage Society, to talk about Marlborough Square.

But if you ever wondered why Marlborough Square is called that, the Society addresses the question.

The old Co-op was also a feature of Marlborough Square, and the Society talks about that here.

Work on the new-look Marlborough Square is scheduled to be completed this Spring, with an outdoor market planned to be a feature of the scheme.
