A Coalville teacher is staging an exhibition of her art at a town centre venue this weekend and next week.

Liza Ricciardi, who works at Castle Rock School, has created Hyperbeings which is currently on show at the Coalville CAN building in Memorial Square.

The exhibition is described as being 'based on futuristic mutations that wear the body and dictate or imply movement.'

It is inspired by Liza's love of dance and was launched on Wednesday - and you can visit for free this evening (Friday), Saturday (Jan 14) and then until Saturday (Jan 21).

Liza, based in Thringstone, explained the idea behind the concept and told Coalville Nub News: "I was really interested in the way we wear clothing and the way we move through space.

"So I wanted to capture that with my textiles techniques."

Liza attended the Royal College of Art where she gained a Masters degree in textiles.

She then returned to Coalville - after living in London for around seven years - to teach textiles at Castle Rock.

Liza added: "Textiles is primarily my background along with a bit of dance.

"I've displayed some of these pieces as part of my Masters, but not all of them, and I've never exhibited them like this before.

"There are some new bits and pieces in there, especially the use of lighting.

"The wearable garments are all new pieces."

Liza's exhibition is accompanied by music and she says it adds to the experience for visitors.

She said: "The music was a collaboration with Dean Wildgoose at Coalville CAN.

"It's a fantastic idea, the pieces are supposed to reflect movement, so it all collaborates together."

Liza believes Coalville is fast becoming a place where local artists can express themselves.

She added: "There's a lot of hidden talent in Coalville.

"And this space at Coalville CAN is amazing, we also have some talented students in the area.

"Getting them involved in things like this can give them some ideas as well.

"It means they can understand the concept of what makes a successful exhibition.

"Don't just come here to check out my exhibition, there's lots going on here. And it's free!

"I met Deana a while ago now and this venue is a place where you can come and meet people you might not otherwise."
