Two Coalville businesses have been crowned winners of this year's Best Dressed Window competition.

Elizabeth Grace Hair and Beauty and Kat's Antiques, both located on High Street, were declared the favourites in North West Leicestershire District Council's (NWLDC) annual competition.

Unlike previous years, there were two opportunities to take the coveted Best Dressed Window title following a public vote and the Chairman's Choice award.

The public voted for Elizabeth Grace Hair and Beauty's wintery display while the Chairman was inspired by Kat's Antiques' imagination to create a scene from Narnia.

The Attic, on Belvoir Road has also received a highly commended award for its effort.

The Chairman's Choice was re-instated following feedback from residents that the award should return to recognise more than one business in the town centre.

In total, nearly 20 businesses from across Coalville took part and 277 votes were received.

Running at the same time, 40 mini Santas were scattered across the town in this year's Have you seen Santa? competition.

Voters from both competitions were chosen at random to win local shopping vouchers for taking part and have been contacted directly to arrange postage.

Councillor Russell Boam, Chairman of NWLDC, said: "Each year, we encourage businesses to decorate their windows to help draw in shoppers and visitors to give the town centre a boost during the busiest time of the year.

"A lot of thought goes into each display, and it was a difficult decision to choose just one business deserving of the award, particularly when every window was so unique.

"I'd like to thank all the businesses for taking part and to shoppers who have once again shown their support to the town's local and independent businesses."
