A pub owner in Thringstone has described the theft of four Six Nations flags last night as a 'kick in the teeth'.

The George and Dragon pub put up the flags outside the pub to publicise the rugby tournament which kicked off at the weekend.

But four of them were stolen on Sunday night - only the England and Ireland flags remains.

A message posted on the Friends of Thringstone Facebook page today read: "Thanks to the people that have taken 4 out of 6 of our six nations flags in the night. Obviously got nothing better to do."

The theft has disappointed landlord Joshua Allen as it is not the first time his pub has fallen victim to the flag thieves.

"We put them up for the Six Nations on Friday, they were all there on Sunday night when we locked up, and they were gone on Monday," said Joshua who owns the pub on the Ashby Road, three miles from Coalville.

"They've been snapped off, but I don't know why they've left the England flag.

"You try and support the rugby, then this happens, it's a bit of a kick in the teeth really.

"We've ordered some more, it's not about the cost. It happened before then when we had the World Cup on in 2018, two of them were stolen then.

"I don't get it, I'm not sure whey they would've taken just the four unless someone disturbed them.

"It's not something I'd bother the police with, they have more important things out there.

"But I'd like to get it out there that if anyone knows someone who's done it, then we'd like them back.

"Also, it'll explain to people driving past and wondering why we've only got two flags left."
