Thringstone litter picking group collects record amount of rubbish from the area

By Graham Hill 31st Mar 2021

The Friends of Thringstone litter picking group says it has had a record month for the amount of rubbish collected in the area.

It is a group that was started in 2005 - but this month has seen them collect 180 bags of rubbish.

That is the most for one month since the littler pickers have been active in Thringstone.

Nita Pearson, chair of the Friends of Thringstone, said: "We have kept records of the amounts of litter collected and this month (March) we have unfortunately beaten all previous records in that our 13 volunteers have, between them, collected 180 bags of rubbish from the village and surrounding woodlands.

"We don't consider this something to be particularly proud of, but wish to point out to people that we are trying our best to keep our village and its woodlands clean, welcoming and safe for everybody, including wildlife.

"When circumstances allow, we will do a community litter pick and remove burnt out carcasses of bikes etc. from the woodland and stream, and tackle some other issues that have come to light during lockdown."
