Threat to Burton And Dorothy Perkins In Coalville After Arcadia Collapse

The future of Burton Menswear in Coalville is at risk after Topshop owner Arcadia has entered administration on Monday.

Across the UK, it means 13,000 jobs could be at risk across the UK.

Sir Philip Green's retail empire has collapsed in the worst single business failure of the Covid-19 crisis to date - although some believe this would have happened without the coronavirus crisis.

The company owns high street names such as Dorothy Perkins, Topman, Evans and Burton as well as the Outfit stores.

Ian Grabiner, Arcadia's, chef executive said it was an "incredibly sad day" and that the company had been unable to ride out the severe impact of the coronavirus pandemic on trading.

"This is an incredibly sad day for all of our colleagues as well as our suppliers and our many other stakeholders."

He added: "Our stores will remain open or re-open when permitted under the Government Covid-19 restrictions, our online platforms will be fully operational and supplies to all of our partners will continue."

Sky News reports that the workforce now faces an uncertain future though no redundancies are being announced immediately and the business will continue to trade as normal - with stores that have been closed due to the latest lockdown to reopen once restrictions are lifted this week.

Matt Smith, administrator at Deloitte, told the Financial Times the firm would be assessing all options available for the future - and made it clear it is hoped a buyer can be found.

"We will be rapidly seeking expressions of interest and expect to identify one or more buyers to ensure the future success of the businesses," he said.

Administrators, Deloitte, said online orders made over the Black Friday weekend would be honoured.

A statement added: "No redundancies are being announced as a result of the appointment and stores will continue to trade.

"The Joint Administrators are assessing all options available to the Group.

"The administrators will be honouring all online orders made over the Black Friday weekend and will continue to be operating all the existing sale channels of the business."
