This year's Cattows Farm hosted Ashby Show has been cancelled as the uncertainty surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic continues.

The event, held in Heather, was cancelled last year for the same reason.

But despite the Government aiming for a return to some sort of normality by June 21, the show organisers felt that their date of July 10 was too close in terms of organising the event to its usual high standard - or being able to say whether it would definitely be able to go ahead.

Even with the progress being made by the Government's vaccination programme, it was felt the risk was too great.

A statement on the Ashby Show website from the show chairman John Shields says: "After many months of discussions, video meetings and careful consideration, it is with a heavy heart that we confirm the next Ashby Show will take place on 10th July, 2022, not July 2021 as originally planned.

"We prepare for almost 12 months to put on this fantastic show and whilst recent government announcements have given the whole country hope and positive milestones to aim for, we simply do not have enough lead time for the planning of the 2021 show.

"We also do not know if any measures relating to social distancing could be re-introduced or what extra costs being Covid compliant may incur.

"We strive to host one of the premier one-day agricultural shows in the country - with the safety and enjoyment of our visitors, volunteer committee members, exhibitors, sponsors, members, judges, stewards and contractors being our primary goal whilst also safeguarding the future of this fantastic event with over 100 years of provenance.

"Although the decision is hugely disappointing, we feel this is our only option with the current uncertainties we still find ourselves in.

"All our efforts are now firmly focused on the 2022 Show and we WILL come back bigger and better, hopefully in a more buoyant and safe climate.

"We would like to thank you all for your understanding and continued support and we look forward to welcoming you back next year.

"If you have a passion for Ashby Show and would like to join a team of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers, then please email Jane, the show secretary at - [email protected]. Please stay safe."
