Cattle broke out of a field in Whitwick after thieves stole equipment that caused an electric fence to shut off.

The incident happened at Swannymote Road last month and North West Leicestershire Police have appealed for information.

The police said: "Overnight between Tuesday, May 25, and Wednesday, May 26, a car battery and a Hotline Falcon Electric Fence Energiser were stolen from a field off Swannymote Road in Whitwick causing a fence to fail and cattle to be released.

"Were you in the area during this time at all? Did you see or hear anything?

"If you think you can help us with our investigation, please call in on 101 and ask to speak to PC 237 Holmes, the officer in the case."
