A takeaway delivery driver in Coalville last night (Saturday) ended up with a court summons after being stopped by police.

A vehicle was spotted by officers without its lights on as the driver was delivering a food order.

The driver was then found to be committing a series of motoring offences.

Police have apologised to whoever ordered the takeaway as the man was left on foot after being stopped.

North West Leicestershire Police explained what happened on social media today (Sunday): "Didn't receive your food order last night? We may be able to explain.

"At 10pm last night, local beat officers stopped a car after it drove through Coalville Town without its lights on.

"On completing checks, it transpired the driver, who was delivering food at the time, did not have the correct insurance.

"To make matters worse, he was driving on a provisional licence with no L-plates or a qualified driver on board.

"As such, the driver has been summonsed to court and his vehicle has been seized.

"Male left on foot in possession of the takeaway, destination unknown..

"We can only apologise to the victims of the heinous crime of an undelivered takeaway on a Saturday night."
