Market Bosworth Police staged an operation to stop speeding on the A511 near Coalville.
And they revealed they were 'amazed' at stopping one car travelling at 116mph in icy conditions.
Police were responding to reports of cars travelling at high speed on the dual carriageway.
And they posted on their Facebook page about the incidents near Bardon Hill.
Police said: "We were made aware of issues on the A511 on the border with North West Leicestershire.
"Reports were that cars were congregating at the garage and racing up and down the dual carriageway.
"We spent some time with officers from the Specials Safer Roads Team and the RPU.
"Those from the SRT are volunteers and give up their own time to make a difference. They have full police powers and are an essential part of the wider police family.
"The dual carriageway is a 70 mph limit.
"Needless to say - even we were amazed when one driver was stopped after doing 116 mph. The roads are icy - the gritters are out in force.
"There's no excuse. Last year 40 people lost their lives on Leicestershire roads. Most were speed related."
