North West Leicestershire District Council has issued details of next month's Remembrance Day service and parade in Coalville.

There will be a number of services across the district on Sunday, November 10, which will remember and reflect on the sacrifices of fallen soldiers.

The Coalville event, which has always been well supported by the public, is organised by the District Council and the Coalville Remembrance Partnership.

The parade leaves Christ Church at 10.40am, passing along Hotel Street and High Street, culminating in a service to mark the two minutes of silence and a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial in Memorial Square.

During the two-minute silence, poppy petals will be released from the top of the Memorial Clock Tower to honour of those who served and currently serve in the armed forces.

To allow for the parade to pass along Hotel Street and High Street, a road closure will be in place that day from 10am until 12pm. Road users are reminded to use an alternative route whilst it is closed.

A Poppy Appeal stall will be at the outdoor Marlborough Square Market on Friday, November 1 and 8, as well as inside Newmarket from Tuesday, October 29, until Tuesday, November 12, where poppies can be purchased.

Other services and events to mark Remembrance will be:

  • The Poppy Appeal launch, supported by the Leicestershire and Rutland Royal British Legion at the War Memorial in Coalville on Saturday, October 26, at 11am
  • An Armistice Day Service at the War Memorial in Coalville on Monday, November 11, at 11am

Working with town and parish councils and local businesses, North West Leicestershire District Council has also added poppy ground stencils in six communities in the district to raise awareness of the Poppy Appeal.

The council's dedicated Armed Forces Champion is Councillor Tony Gillard.

He said: "Remembrance Day is a chance to reflect and remember those we have lost, and to show our gratitude to those that are serving in conflicts around the world.

"Our Remembrance parade is always supported brilliantly by the public and I have no doubt we will see that again this year."

A number of other parades and services are to be held in North West Leicestershire over the weekend with information available from parish councils or local churches.

Participants in the Remembrance Service at Christ Church in Coalville and Remembrance Parade will be by invitation only.
