A Coalville picnic in the park-style event is set to return next year.

A two-day weekend has been pencilled in for 2025 and is due to be discussed at next week's Coalville Special Expenses Working Party meeting next Tuesday.

The event is currently scheduled for June 28 and 29.

This is described on the agenda as a free family event in Coalville Park, featuring a main stage, live music, craft and food stalls, on field activities and entertainment and local charity stalls.

In 2023, an estimated 2,500 people attended the last Picnic in the Park event.

It was returning for the first time as an event since the Covid pandemic - although the park had hosted Jubilee and Coronation celebrations over the previous 12 months.

Cllr Tony Gillard said at the time: "Picnic in the Park on Sunday was very well attended and there was a lovely atmosphere in the park, we estimate around 2,500 joined us.

"We know that free events like this mean a lot to residents and our communities, particularly during the current economic crisis."

Last summer's event took the shape of the 125th Anniversary of Coalville Park last summer.

That was organised by North West Leicestershire District Council and the Friends of Coalville Park who were jointly behind the Celebrate 125 Years of Coalville Park.

That event included the burying of a time capsule to be opened in 50 years' time.

Cllr Gillard said earlier this year: "Our Celebrate Coalville Park's 125th Anniversary event was a major success, having everything from live music to dance troupes to children's rides and much more."
