Scooter man who tried to break into Hugglescote home with a garden fork has been arrested and appeared in court

A man who tried to break into a home in Hugglescote with a garden fork while on a mobility scooter has been arrested and appeared in court.

William Ritchie, 46, has been charged with one count of burglary with intent to steal, which relates to an incident in Crescent Road, Hugglescote on the afternoon of Thursday, September 29.

The attempted break-in happened between 1.30-1.45pm.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said Ritchie, whose address on the force's system is HM Prison Leicester, appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (October 4). 

Police officers distributed posters around the area in Coalville and Hugglescote while carrying out house-to-house enquiries.

The poster read: "We are investigating a burglary at a nearby property where a male on a mobility scooter has attempted to break into a property using a garden fork.

""Have you seen anything? Do you have CCTV/dashcam? A secure link can be sent to your email to send footage."
