A mobile barista cafe in Ibstock has been recognised as one of the top 20 most loved businesses across the UK thanks to a national initiative.

The Little Bluebird Cafe has been nominated among locals as their favourite business as part of ShopAppy.com's Love Local Day 2023.

The campaign, which ran until February 14, encouraged customers to nominate their favourite high street business to help acknowledge them for the service they provide in the community.

Over 250 nominations were submitted from shoppers in North West Leicestershire for businesses in Coalville, Ashby, Kegworth, Ibstock and Castle Donington.

ShopAppy.com is an online directory which helps to sign-post shoppers to services, opening times and click and collect services with participating businesses in their local area.

North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) has been working in partnership with the digital high street provider since the pandemic to help rebuild the district's town and village centres.

Councillor Tony Gillard, Portfolio Holder for Business at NWLDC said: "Congratulations to the Little Bluebird Cafe for making it into ShopAppy.com's top 20 winners and all the other businesses across the district that were nominated.

"Our high streets would be nothing without the independent shops who each bring something different to North West Leicestershire and it's great to see them being recognised as part of ShopAppy.com's national initiative.

"Thanks to all the shoppers who nominated and continue to support businesses all year round."

Sally Wilford, owner of the Little Bluebird Cafe, said: "I'm very grateful to everyone who took the time to nominate us as your favourite local business.

"I am incredibly blessed to have such amazing customers in our community, and I appreciate all your support from the bottom of my heart!"

Dr Jackie Mulligan, Founder of ShopAppy — the organisation behind the UKs Love Local Day campaign — explains: "Love Local Day has provided a great outpouring of love for the small local businesses that line our high streets, and at a time when they need a boost of both morale and spend.

"The past three years have been a perfect storm for our high streets, but we know there is tremendous love for local businesses in our communities.

"Many of these businesses provide the chance for conversation, a safe space, expertise and great products and services on our doorstep and have adapted so much to keep us safe since the pandemic. Love Local Day celebrates all that these businesses do for our communities."
