A photographer captured dramatic images of red deer rutting in a Leicestershire park this week.

Martyn Foss shot the stags as they showed off for females in Bradgate Park on Monday (9 October).

He explains: "The red deer rut begins in September and lasts until around early November.

"During this time, competing males, pumped full of testosterone, will engage in a series of behaviours aimed at showing off to the hinds (female red deer) and establishing dominance over other stags.

"It is amazing to be so close to the action and natural wildlife, however keeping far enough away to keep safe and not affect the deer, as the stags become dangerous during rutting season as they protect their hind.

"It is incredible to hear the roar of the stags in a peaceful park."
