A former Whitwick pub which has fallen into disrepair appears to have reached the end of its life.
Demolition plans for The Oak, in Whitwick, near Coalville, have been released by North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC).
The Talbot Street venue has not been open to patrons for more than a decade and has become a blight in the village.
The local authority revealed its ambition to tear it down and redevelop the land in 2021.
By that point, the derelict building had become a hot-spot for vandalism and antisocial behaviour.
Outline planning permission – meaning permission was given for the scheme in principle, with the full details to be set out and agreed later – for eight new affordable homes on the site was approved in October of the same year.
Now, the council has uploaded a demolition notice for the former pub and its outbuildings on its planning portal.
The notice states the "long-term vacancy" of the ex-watering hole is "causing health and safety concerns" and creating a "public eyesore".
The notice also suggests there could be changes to the future plan for the site.
NWLDC says the previous outline permission is to be "amended" and a "new option submitted".
This looks likely to still be council housing, from the limited details included in the application.
However, instead of the eight homes formerly proposed, the document suggests the authority is now looking at six. Demolition is expected to start on-site on Monday, August 26.
