North West Leicestershire District Council sends condolences after death of Prince Philip

North West Leicestershire chairman Virginio Richichi has released a statement following the sad news of the death of Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said today (Friday): "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle."

Councillor Richichi said: "On behalf of the people of North West Leicestershire, I'd like to pass on our sincere condolences to The Queen on the very sad passing of His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh.

"His Royal Highness displayed a passionate devotion to our Commonwealth and served with love and devotion for many years and his dedication to duty will be greatly missed by all.

"I'd encourage local people to leave tributes and messages in the virtual book of condolence which will be available in due course."
