Results of an exclusive Nub News Readers' poll reveal that Labour's anticipated dominance in the upcoming general election might not be as comprehensive as expected.

With warnings to Sir Kier Starmer of complacency, 29 per cent of subscribers in our towns across the country said they currently plan to vote for a Labour candidate come July 4.

This figure starkly contrasts with the 42 per cent vote share predicted for Labour by other sources, painting a picture of a much tighter and uncertain race.

However, the lower numbers for Labour will still be little consolation to Rishi Sunak and the Conservatives who sit second in the poll with just 20 per cent of the votes - which would be less than half the amount they received in the 2019 election.

The Tories only narrowly edged out Nigel Farage's Reform and Sir Ed Davey's Liberal Democrats who each had 19 per cent of the vote share, taking the votes from Labour.

Specifically, in Coalville and Ashby, the results were similar to the national picture, with Labour leading the race.

But our poll shows the North West Leicestershire constituency is shaping up to be a close two-way tussle, with Labour's Amanda Hack (35.75%) narrowly trailed by Craig Smith (32.81%) who is looking to retain the seat for the Conservatives, who won in 2019 with Andrew Bridgen, who will be standing as an Independent candidate this time.

Reform UK's Noel Matthews received 19.46 per cent of the votes, with the Liberal Democrats' Alice Delemere taking 2.71 per cent, the same as Andrew Bridgen.

The Green candidate, Carl Benfield, returned a 6.33 per cent share of the poll, while another Independent candidate, Siobhan Dillon polled 0.23 per cent.

Nub News polled 3,000 newsletter subscribers between 12.30pm on Wednesday 12 June and midnight on Thursday 13 June. Readers were only able to register a single vote for a local candidate. In Ashby and Coalville, 442 subscribers were polled. Results were not weighted demographically and did not include the Castle Donington or Kegworth areas.
