New interactive map highlights a host of public footpaths available to walkers in the Coalville area
Walkers and ramblers in the Coalville area are being invited to use an interactive map to explore local public footpaths.
The interactive map allows people to see right of way footpaths as well as highlighting specific walks across the county.
The map also allows users to filter by routes distance and elements of interest, such as historic locations or family-friendly walks that pass play areas.
The walks can also be seen by their difficulty so people of all abilities can know which ones they can attempt.
The interactive map highlights a number of walks people can access in and around Coalville.
Leicestershire County Council is encouraging people to use their public footpaths over the coming months while stressing the benefits which include improved health and getting around without adding to carbon dioxide emissions.
Research has shown most county residents going walking, cycling, or riding at least once a month and many residents have said they see access to the countryside as important.
Leicestershire's public footpaths make up 40 per cent of highways in the county and are also used regularly in both town and rural locations for practical travel and leisure.
Councillor Ozzy O'Shea, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "We're encouraging everyone to try out our great network of public footpaths.
"Our county has some beautiful walks, to help people improve their health and helping us reach our net zero targets too.
"Our interactive map which makes it really easy to plan journeys out and help people make the most of our amazing countryside."
The website also has a wide range of leaflets for download or for use on mobile phones.
