Plans for a new Coalville nursery which can cater for 76 children have been given the go-ahead.

The facility will be next to the existing Broom Leys Primary School building, and is a revised plan submitted by Hunny Nurseries who had previously been given planning permission.

But the plans were re-submitted due to Hunny Nurseries's 'different needs of space.'

The building will hold 12 children aged 0-2, 16 children aged 2-3 and 48 children aged 3-4.

A planning statement sent to North West Leicestershire District Council as part of the application says: "Hunny Nurseries is a day nursery provider which has nurseries across Leicestershire.

"It provides high quality child care provision and the foundations for future learning and development prior to starting school.

"The proposal will sit adjacent to the existing primary school building and will include the following areas: four nursery spaces, baby change, stores, toilets, office and kitchen.

"Externally there will be an enclosed astroturf play area with a canopy above and tarmac hard standing parent waiting area.

"There will also be a new 12 car parking spaces for staff which will use an existing double gate for vehicular access.

"The scheme has been altered and as a result has needed to be repositioned to fit to the existing site constraints, requiring the need for a new planning application to be submitted.

"The project provides a new nursery within the school site.

"This will help address the shortfall in nursery places locally.

"The proposed nursery will also offer local employment opportunities."

The application also moved to allay any fears of increased traffic in the area as a result of the new nursery.

It says: "The majority of the children attending will have an association with the school and are likely to have siblings already in attendance, this means that there will not be a significant increase in additional vehicles dropping off at the site and minimal increase to congestion.

"The drop off and pick up times will be staggered throughout the day, the nursery will have opening hours between 7:30am – 6pm meaning the development will not necessarily increase traffic at peak school times.

"The proposed new car park will be for staff only and contains 12 spaces including a disabled bay.

"There will be a maximum of 15 members of staff working at one time and although there are a lower number of spaces, it is envisaged that up to 60 per cent of the staff will live locally to the nursery ensuring a large proportion will walk or cycle to work."
