Leicester's National Space Centre is planning a 'Coalville Takeover' later this month.

The attraction has been engaging with the Coalville area since the start of March - and has delivered free day provision for a local specialist school, Maplewell at Woodhouse Eaves.

This provided free space science education and activities for three of its post-16 groups.

In addition, the National Space Centre has provided free after school activity for young people aged 7-12 to join in a range of practical hands-on science based activities.

Through this programme, a total 40 participants have been produced as part of the This is part of the Ignite! Community programme.

As a result, the Space Centre wants to invite those participants back for a celebratory evening with their parents, but also connect with more of the community for an evening of 'free' activity.

In October, the Centre carried out a community consultation and now wants to pursue the concept of making Coalville C.A.N a partner provision, acting as a Community STEM Hub as Leicester becomes named a Space City!

The Coalville Takeover on Friday, April 21, will be two fold:

  1. To deliver science presentations in as many schools possible during the day to 'space up' students
  2. to deliver a fun evening event for families, participants and local space enthusiasts.
