A leading Labour Councillor has summed up the Chancellor's Autumn Statement as 'More pain and no shame.'

North West Leicestershire District Council Labour Leader Cllr Sean Sheahan said: "Tory policies have been causing hardship for working people for over a decade.

"First there was prolonged austerity, then it was the cost of living crisis. More recently, Liz Truss recklessly triggered a financial crisis, leading to a hike in mortgage rates.

"As if this wasn't enough, the latest tax rises and public services cuts will see living standards suffering their largest drop on record.

"The Autumn Statement piles on the pain for working people, and this Government shows no shame."
