Cold weather is expected throughout the East Midlands and Coalville area this week - with temperatures expected to dip tonight (Tuesday) to minus three degrees.

But the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow later in the week - with Thursday and Friday the most likely days.

The Met Office's forecast for the Coalville area is as follows.

Headline:

Cold this week, with snow showers and widespread frosts.

Today (Tuesday):

A cold start with widespread frost. Mostly dry, with scattered snow showers along exposed windward coasts, occasionally pushing inland. Showers easing off by the evening with cloud clearing to give another cold night, with widespread frost and icy patches forming. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Tonight:

A very cold night with a severe frost, and icy patches in places still damp from any daytime showers. The odd snow shower may affect windward coasts at times. Minimum temperature -3 °C.

Wednesday:

A bright, cold, and frosty start. Cloudier through the afternoon but should remain mostly dry, with exposed windward coasts perhaps seeing the odd snow shower at times. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Staying cold with frosts overnight. Risk of disruptive snow and strong winds to occur on Thursday and Friday. Saturday looking drier and brighter.
