Man suspected of drink-driving crashes stolen car in Coalville town centre incident

A man suspected of drink driving crashed a stolen car into another vehicle before hitting railings in Coalville town centre on Christmas Eve.

The 36-year-old was arrested by police - but no injuries were reported following the incident in Belvoir Road.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told Coalville Nub News: "We received a report at 7.25pm, on December 24, of a road traffic collision in Belvoir Road.

"A stolen Audi was in collision with a Land Rover before colliding with some railings.

"Neither driver was injured.

"A 36-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of aggravated taking without owner's consent and drink driving.

"He has been since been released on police bail pending further enquiries."

Unconfirmed reports on social media say the man was driving on the wrong side of the road and tried to escape the scene of the incident before being arrested.

Leicestershire Police say enquiries are ongoing into the incident.
