A lorry driver was reported by police for taking a break the exit of the M1 at the Coalville junction.

Leicestershire Roads Policing Unit tweeted about the incident today (Thursday) - along with the above photo - when they spotted the vehicle on the slip road.

The driver may well have been resting up during the journey, but the report and fixed penalty would have been avoided if he had travelled a few hundred yards and seen the services located on Little Shaw Lane.

The police unit tweeted: "Driver taking break on slip road.

"It an offence to stop on the motorway.

"Driver said he'd seen others doing it.

"Lay-bys and services just literally round the corner. Traffic Offence Report issued."

The Highway Code says: "Rule 270. You MUST NOT stop on the carriageway, hard shoulder, slip road, central reservation or verge except in an emergency, or when told to do so by the police, traffic officers in uniform, an emergency sign or by flashing red light signals."
