A Leicestershire children's charity has received a £1,200 donation from the Amazon fulfilment centre in Coalville.

The donation was made to Phoenix Children's Foundation, a charity that provides recreation and leisure activities for children living with illnesses, disabilities, or a lack of opportunities.

The charity owns an accessible gardening and allotment area in Packington which also includes a collection of animals such as Shetland ponies, alpacas and reindeer.

Activities at the Packington site help young people learn new skills and grow emotionally.

Amazon in Coalville has been supporting Phoenix Children's Foundation since 2017 with donations totalling more than £10,000.

This donation will go towards the creation of an outdoor forest school enabling children to visit and interact with the animals.

Richard Cowlishaw-Ellison, Site Leader at Amazon's fulfilment centre in Coalville, said: "We're pleased to strengthen our relationship with Phoenix Children's Foundation.

"The charity goes above and beyond for the people it supports and we can't wait to see the new forest school come to life."

Paula, who works at Amazon in Coalville, nominated the charity for donation and said: "I'm happy our team can support Phoenix Children's Foundation to create its new forest school."

Clare Smith, Charity Co-ordinator from The Phoenix Children's Foundation, added: "Thank you to Richard and the team at Amazon for this donation and for their continued support throughout the years.

"Donations like this ensure we can keep supporting children across Leicestershire."

The donation to The Phoenix Children's Foundation was made as part of Amazon's programme to support the communities in and around its operating locations across the UK.

Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering more than six million healthy breakfasts to families across England.
