A Leicester-based hospice has received a £1,000 donation from Amazon in Coalville.

The donation was made to LOROS Hospice, which provides care and support to terminally ill adult patients, their families and carers across Leicestershire and Rutland.

It will help support families through bereavement counselling, physiotherapy, day services and more.

The Amazon team also volunteered to marshal LOROS's twilight fundraising walk, which took place at the King Power Stadium in Leicester.

Richard Cowlishaw-Ellison, Site Leader at Amazon in Coalville, said: "We are pleased to be supporting LOROS with this donation, building on our relationship with the charity. The LOROS team's efforts to support terminally ill people are so important, and we are proud to lend a helping hand."

Mary Stewart from Amazon in Coalville helped marshal the event. She added: "Our team really enjoyed helping at the LOROS twilight walk. I am pleased our team is supporting the hospice with a donation, as it does such important work for our community."

Mark Clements, Supporter Engagement Lead from LOROS Hospice said: "On behalf of the hospice, I would like to thank Amazon for donating both money and time to support our hospice. We could not offer the free, high-quality care we do without support like this – thank you."

Community donations and employee volunteering are just two of the ways Amazon supports the communities in and around its operating locations across the UK.

Amazon provides students, teachers and parents with free computer science and STEM education programmes through Amazon Future Engineer and has teamed up with charity partner Magic Breakfast to deliver more than seven million healthy breakfasts to children at risk of hunger in disadvantaged areas of the country.

Earlier this year, Amazon partnered with Comic Relief to become the official home of the Red Nose. Amazon employees across the UK hosted fundraising activities and together with their customers and partners, raised £2.7 million to support those going through the toughest time of their lives.
