North West Leicestershire saw another 80 coronavirus infections identified on Wednesday.

Broken down to district and borough level, Charnwood – 97, and Blaby – 81 were again the areas to see the steepest increases - but North West Leicestershire was close behind.

It means the district's cases per 100,000 people is 368.7 - with 382 new infections recorded in the past seven days.

But that has come down after hitting 400 - almost double the previous week's figure.

Almost 750 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed across the city and county as Leicester's infection rate has again topped its highest ever level.

The city accounted for 301 of the 746 cases added to tolls across Leicester and Leicestershire.

Its infection rate today stands just shy of 600 cases per 100,000 people at 598.5. It has risen from 570 yesterday and is more than four times the 135 cases per 100,000 people rate that saw the city become the first place to be put into local lockdown.

Hinckley and Bosworth added 72 positive tests to its toll while Harborough added 67.

There were 35 new cases in Oadby and Wigston and 13 in Melton.

The new cases, updated on Wednesday at 4pm, mean that the total number across the city and county since the start of the pandemic area by area are :

  • Leicester: 25,575
  • Blaby: 4,987
  • Charnwood: 8,922

  • Hinckley and Bosworth: 4,105

  • North West Leicestershire: 3,849
  • Oadby and Wigston: 3,806

The latest seven-day infection rates, area by area, are:
