A knife-wielding burglar was bitten by the dog he was trying to steal after threatening to stab the householder in the stomach.

Officers are appealing for information after a report of an aggregated burglary in Ravenstone on Thursday (February 18) February.

The intruder demanded to take the dog - and came at the owner with a knife.

But the dog bit the burglar who then ran away from the property.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: "It was reported that around 3.30pm a man was seen in a garden of a property on Willars Way.

"He forced entry through the back door, threatened the occupant with a knife, causing superficial marks to their stomach, and demanded they hand over their dog.

"The dog then reportedly jumped up and bit the man on the forearm before he left the property and climbed a rear fence towards Wash Lane.

"The man is described as white, olive-skinned, around 6'4 and of large build.

"He had short, dark-brown hair and stubble. He was wearing a fluorescent orange stripy jumper and dark trousers.:

Detective Sergeant Andy Moore said: "This incident happened in daylight and the man reportedly left the scene towards a busy main road.

"We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a man matching the description or anyone who may have dash cam footage from the area at the time of the incident.

"We would also urge all dog owners to be vigilant to cold-calls and ensure their property is secured."

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting reference 21*97936.
