An Ibstock woman is debuting her environmentally-friendly business at a new regular pop-up at The Palace this Saturday (19 Sept).

Fran Barney is launching No Frills Refills - 'simply sustainable staples, on your doorstep'- selling mostly dried food such as pasta, rice, herbs and tea package-free.

Customers simply bring along their own containers to stock up.

Fran, who lives in Ibstock, is teaming up with another village-based company Weigh Hey!, run by Karen Jane, which sells eco-friendly household and bodycare products, to stage the first Ibstock Eco Hub on Saturday morning.

Fran hopes the hub will become a monthly event in the village calendar.

Each pop-up will see like-minded local companies invited to join the duo and this Saturday will feature Avocado, which sells a range of reusable materials such as kitchen rolls and facemasks, and Valley Farm, with milk refills and eggs.

Fran said: "Over the last few years I have found myself becoming more aware of climate change and I was particularly shocked by the extent of plastic pollution.

"I love to find new ways to reduce my single-use plastic to help me and my family to live a more sustainable life - I believe we can all do our bit, we just need to find what's achievable for us and keep working at it.

"So I'm excited to be starting my new business which has come off the back of a successful one-off awareness event I organised last year at The Palace.

"The eco hub will see local businesses coming together to offer a wide range of refillable and reusable products helping to reduce single-use plastics.

"We will also be inviting organisations to offer advice and information on recycling and repurposing."

Fran will also soon be manning a regular pop-up stall in Coalville's former Santander building, offering a click and collect service, and at the Charles Booth Centre in Thringstone.

The Ibstock Eco Hub will be open from 9.30am to 12noon.
