Leading HIV and sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust has received a £1,000 donation from Amazon in Coalville.
The donation follows a visit from Terrence Higgins Trust's Positive Voices team to Amazon's fulfilment centre in Coalville, where people living with HIV delivered educational talks about their lived experience and the facts on HIV.
The donation will help support Terrence Higgins Trust's mission to end new HIV cases by 2030 in the UK and be there until the last person living with HIV needs them.
Manuela Fechete works at Amazon in Coalville and attended the educational session with Terrence Higgins Trust. She said:
"It was great to have the team from Terrence Higgins Trust on site and I found the session very informative. I am so pleased Amazon can help support the important work the charity does in Leicestershire and across the UK."
Jen Illman, Positive Voices Coordinator at Terrence Higgins Trust, added:
"We were delighted to visit Amazon in Coalville as we seek to raise awareness of the reality of HIV today and challenge the stigma associated with the virus. We can't end the HIV epidemic without ending the stigma – that's why everyone should know that people diagnosed with HIV today can live healthy, fulfilling lives with a normal lifespan. People on effective HIV treatment can't pass it on to partners.
"We'd like to say thank you to Amazon for their continued support as we work towards the life-changing goal of ending new HIV cases by 2030."
Community donations are just one of the ways Amazon supports the communities where it operates. Amazon has supported more than 500,000 students across the UK with free computer science and STEM education programmes through Amazon Future Engineer.
Amazon helps community organisations transport meals and other essentials to families in need through its pro bono logistics programme, Amazon Local Good, including more than seven million healthy breakfasts to children at risk of hunger in partnership with Magic Breakfast. And through its Multibank initiative, co-founded with former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Amazon has supported more than 200,000 families experiencing poverty, with the donation of more than 2 million surplus essential goods.
Amazon partners with Comic Relief to help people tackle poverty and is the official home of the charity's iconic Red Nose. Together with its employees, customers, and partners, Amazon has raised over £4.8 million to fund projects that support people struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and tackle issues such as homelessness, mental health problems, and food insecurity across the UK, and around the world.
