Projects with an environmental focus in North West Leicestershire can now receive funding of up to £500 towards making green improvements across the district.

North West Leicestershire District Council's new Zero Carbon Grant scheme, previously known as the Green Grants scheme, will support community activities, initiatives and events which have an environmental angle.

Applications are welcome from all groups and organisations in the district, including parish councils. Projects relating to the following will be considered:

  • Climate change
  • Energy efficiency
  • Equipment for litter picking and dog fouling
  • Projects for cycling/walking
  • Community shrub and tree planting
  • Recycling.

North West Leicestershire District Council has pledged to ensure the council has a Zero Carbon footprint by 2030, and to support the wider district to become carbon neutral by 2050.

The scheme does require matched funding from the organisation that is applying. The minimum application amount is £50.

Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at the council, said: "We know that many community groups and organisations across the district feel strongly about making a positive impact to their local environment and ensuring North West Leicestershire has a green future.

"The Zero Carbon grant scheme is a great opportunity to provide them with a financial boost to support their efforts and help project ideas come to fruition.

"If a green project you're involved in would benefit from some extra support, head to our website and submit an application."
