Ibstock Community College has been given the go-ahead to build a new fitness suite to replace the current facility housed in a mobile classroom.

An application made by the Central Avenue college's governors for a single-storey side extension to the sports hall to create the fitness suite has been approved by North West Leicestershire District Council.

A council officer report says: "The Ibstock Leisure Complex, located at Ibstock Community College, is the only indoor sporting facility within Ibstock and therefore it is considered the service it provides to the local community is essential to maintaining healthy lifestyles.

"As a result of the proposal the existing mobile fitness suite would be removed or relocated elsewhere within the site.

"The application proposes the erection of a single-storey side extension to an existing sports hall to form a fitness suite.

"In terms of design and materials, the proposal would be constructed of materials similar to those of the existing school building and would feature a flat roof, new openings and a canopy and is considered a typical design of a modern extension to a school building.

"The fitness suite would be used by both the school and the community as the [existing] suite is currently."

When completed, the new facility has been given approval to open between 8am and 10pm Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 6pm on Saturday and 8am to 3pm on Sunday.
