The former Wilko store in the Belvoir Centre will be home to a state-of-the-art 24/7 gym.

PureGym has decided to come to Coalville and Nub News has been told the new facility is expected to open to the public this summer.

It is been seen as an important new investment in the town.

Wilko closed its doors last September, but the Coalville unit was expected to be taken over by Poundland, who closed its Belvoir Centre site just over a year ago.

Poundland owner Pepco had agreed to buy up to 71 Wilko stores after the high street chain collapsed last Autumn.

But now Gylo, he owners of the Belvoir Centre, has announced the nationwide gym chain will set up in Coalville.

On behalf of Gylo, Nick Harcus said: "We are delighted to bring PureGym to Coalville and they will open a fantastic new health and leisure facility in the former Wilko unit at the Belvoir Shopping Centre.

"This is yet more new investment in Coalville and is proof positive that the town can attract leading companies offering more choice to local people.

"Work on the new gym will commence soon and it is expected that it will open towards the middle of the year."

A PureGym spokesperson said: "PureGym is delighted to be bringing flexible, affordable fitness to Coalville in summer 2024.

"Our brand new gym will be open 24/7.

"The 10,000 sq. ft facility will have everything members need to achieve their fitness goals, including a wide range of dynamic exercise classes and top-of-the-range fitness equipment, all included in PureGym's flagship low-cost, zero-contract memberships.

"This will be a fantastic facility for people of Coalville and the surrounding areas to help support their physical and mental health - keep an eye out for our opening offer!"
