More than 60 people took part in the first Coalville Community Fun Run last Sunday - with the youngest just three years old.

The Coalville Belvoir Rotary Club-organised event was held at Snibston Colliery Park, and entrants either the 5k route or the 2k route.

Organisers say the day would not have been possible without the support of Leicestershire Country Parks, the event sponsors and the volunteers who acted as marshals.

Aggregate Industries, Crane & Walton, Ibstock Brick, Motors Coalville, MP Personal Training, MQP, Neville Cars, and PPL PRS all sponsored the fun run.

The marshals and helpers came from Coalville Belvoir Rotary Club, Ashby Hastings Rotary Club, Ashby Castle Rotary Club, Ashby de la Zouch & Coalville Lions Club.

There were also volunteers from Hospice Hope and Coalville Belvoir Rotary volunteer group.

This year the chosen charities were Hospice Hope and Islastones Foundation, both of which had stalls at the event to further promote themselves.

Through everyone's support and contributions the event was able to donate £405 to each of them.

Next year's event is being planned for June 9, when it is hoped to be bigger and better.

Coalville Belvoir Rotary Club's next events is Dave's Tractor Run which will be on Sunday, August 20.

This is taking place in Ibstock and surrounding villages and is raising money for the Wishes4Kids charity.

The run will end at the Ibstock Country Fair where you can come to the Rotary Club stall and have a go at Tombola and Hook a Duck.

If you would like to enter your tractor or vintage vehicle, please contact Karen Moulton on 07718 598235, or see the event's Facebook page.

Also, if your company or business is able to sponsor this event you can get in touch with the organisers.
