Fire crews were called out to a 'frightening' blaze in Whitwick in the early hours of this morning (Friday).

The blaze occurred at a property in Cademan Street at around 3.45am - and eye witnesses say the fire caught hold in the garden of a property.

It then set fire to the neighbours' boundary fences and also a decking area.

A spokesman for Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service said that five sheds or outbuildings caught fire.

The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation - but there were no casualties.

Firefighters took almost two hours to put the fire out.

Residents described the fire as being 'frightening' at the time, it that those affected are safe.

A message on the Spotted at Whitwick says: "Thank you to the Firemen who did a call out to a big shed fire on Cademan Street during the night.

"Three fence boundaries on neighbouring properties and someone's decking all caught fire."

Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service said that appliances from Coalville, Ashby and Shepshed were called to the incident as the blaze spread.

A spokesperson told Coalville Nub News: "Initially, Coalville fire crew was called, but then engines from Shepshed and Ashby also attended due to the fire spreading.

"There were multiple calls at first.

"It was initially reported as a shed fire on Cademan Street.

"But there was one large outbuilding and four sheds involved in all.

"The fire spread to neighbouring fences.

"Crews used breathing apparatus and three large hose reels.

"There were no casualties. The fire was extinguished at around 5.25am.

"The cause is under investigation by the Fire Investigation Officer."
