An event aiming to arm parents with support to tackle mental health in children will allow families to try free activities and get access to services.

The Health and Wellbeing Roadshow will take place at the Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Centre on Friday, March 31, and families are invited to come along between 12pm and 5.30pm.

North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) is hosting the event - and attendees will be able to try out the following activities for free:

  • Trampolining
  • Climbing wall
  • Badminton
  • Botcha

The aim of the event is to give parents the necessary tools to spot the signs of mental health in their children and provide access to activities across the district.

Organisations and sports groups will be on hand to help offer free health advice, give away free products and provide details on how young people can get involved in clubs and activities.

Research shows that children and young people tend to have a dip in mental health around this time of year, just before the start of summer.

Paul Sanders, Head of Community Services at NWLDC, said: "We can spot the signs of mental health in our children and young people before it's too late for us to act on it.

"Across the district, there's lots of support that can help children work through mental health challenges by giving them access to the necessary tools.

"The roadshow will bring all these resources together in one place making it easier for parents to know what's available to them."
