An escape room based on a disused coal mine is to open in Coalville this summer - and is ideal for blind and partially sighted players.

Escape Coalville has a number of themed rooms available - and the latest one is set to draw on the history of Coalville.

Not only that, it is set completely in the dark.

Escape Coalville is currently asking for group with a blind or visually impaired player to help them test The Coal Mine.

Anyone interested should send a Facebook message or email at [email protected].

The Belvoir Shopping Centre venue says this will be the first of its kind in the UK, as only touch, hearing and smell will be needed to solve the clues and escape the room.

Escape Coalville has told Coalville Nub News the story behind The Coal Mine room.

"For many years Coalville was a town built upon the pits, the coal and dust and dangerous work offered a living for the people of the town.

"In 1983 all of that changed when the final pit was closed for good.

"Historians had always believed there to be only three mines, but the discovery of a fourth, previously unknown location made that theory unlikely.

"Having worked with local historians, it became apparent that there are a number of undiscovered artefacts still inside, eight mining lamps to be exact.

"The mine has been locked away for many years and due to its age, there is no light inside at all.

"Meter readings show that there is a high level of carbon monoxide in the air, you will have just 60 minutes at most until time runs out.

"Find the lanterns and solve the mystery of The Mine."

The new room will be for up to six players and will be opening on August 5.

The cost varies depending on how many players join in.
