A documentary about the life of monks living at Mount St Bernard Abbey near Coalville has been nominated for a Royal Television Society Award.

The Abbey opened its doors for a rare look inside the monastery - and the result was the documentary Brotherhood: The Inner Life of Monks which was shown on BBC4 earlier this year.

You can also watch the documentary on iPlayer HERE.

Nick Hamer's film offered a fascinating look at how the monks have had to accept some aspects of 21st century life.

But it took him 18 months to develop the access he needed.

Now, the documentary has been nominated in the regional section of the RTS awards.

The abbey was the first permanent monastery to be founded in England since the Reformation and is the sole Trappist house in England.

Nick told Coalville Nub News: "I'm really pleased that 'Brotherhood: the inner life of monks' has been nominated for an RTS Award for best documentary.

"Independent filmmaking is a lonely journey, so receiving recognition is tremendously fulfilling.

"It shows that the film is reaching and impacting its audience.

"I love Mt St Bernard Abbey - If you haven't seen the film it's available on BBC iPlayer until March 2022."
