Stealth Black Belt Academy member David Hagon celebrated a milestone birthday this week - and has been hailed as an inspiration to new members through his dedication to martial arts.

David, a retired airline pilot, has been training at the academy for over 17 years - and has just celebrated his 70th birthday.

He is currently a Second Dan Black Belt, and is now preparing to grade for his Third Dan this December.

David attributes his impressive longevity and vitality to maintaining an active and fit lifestyle through martial arts training.

His journey in Martial Arts started in the 1970s, but like many young men, he quit before earning the coveted Black Belt.

It was 20 years later, at the age of 53, when he took his son Guy to Stealth Black Belt Academy, located on the Stephenson Industrial Estate in Coalville, and decided to enrol himself.

He has not looked back since, and David says it has not only kept him physically robust, but also mentally sharp and socially engaged.

Head Coach Kieran Smith speaks highly of David and said: "David is not only a great martial artist but a shining example to the entire class.

"His dedication and spirit are truly remarkable. He not only keeps up with but often outperforms men half his age in our adult sessions."

David's story is a testament to the philosophy that martial arts can be practiced and enjoyed at any age.

Stealth has over 500 members ranging from as young as three years old to David at 70.

It offers a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals of all ages and skill levels.

"Martial arts is not just about physical strength; it's about mental discipline, resilience, and community," said Coach Kieran.

"David exemplifies these values, and we hope his story inspires others to take that first step towards a healthier, more active lifestyle."

Anyone Interested in seeing what Stealth has to offer is invited for a free introductory session to experience first-hand the welcoming and dynamic atmosphere that has made it a cornerstone of the local community.
