Date set for Coalville's Christmas 'Switch On'
The Christmas in Coalville event will be launched later this month.
A recent meeting of North West Leicestershire' District Council's Special Expenses Working Party set out plans for th festive period in the town.
The meeting heard that the funds allocated to miscellaneous events would be moved to the Christmas budget to allow more to be delivered at this year's main event on November 27, but also other Christmas events throughout December.
Christmas lights have been ordered and are due to be installed in time for the 'switch on' event.
Councillors were told that the date is not negotiable at this late stage as the performers and external providers have been booked.
Councillor Michael Wyatt expressed his disappointment that the Ashby event in December took precedence over the Coalville events - but he was advised that this was not the case.
The dates had been arranged so as to avoid a clash.
Cllr John Geary referenced the budget for this year's Christmas event and the increased funds in order to make it a bigger event compared to last year when the event did not take place.
He was concerned that this may build up expectations for future years.
Cllr Geary also acknowledged that next year would quite likely see the opening of the new Marlborough Square and considered that this would require a big opening event.
He asked for assurances that a budget was in place for new Christmas lighting for this area of the town.
These assurances were provided and details were referenced in the report.
