Cyclist 'seriously injured' after hit and run incident in Coalville: Police start hunt for driver

A cyclist was taken to hospital with 'serious injuries' after a hit and run incident in Coalville this morning (Sunday).

The man was hit by a car just before 6am - but the driver did not stop after the incident which happened in London Road.

Police closed the roads around the area and the man was taken to hospital in Nottingham.

A search is now on for the driver of the car.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: "At 5.50am today (Sunday 8 August) police were called to London Road in Coalville following a report of a collision involving a car and a cyclist.

"Officers attended and found that the car had left the scene.

"The cyclist, a man, was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre to be treated for serious injuries.

"The road was closed while emergency services attended and later reopened.

"Enquiries to locate the car are continuing and anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 119 of Sunday 8 August."
