Leicestershire County Councillor Craig Smith is to seek urgent talks with North West Leicestershire District Council after Coalville Town chairman Glyn Rennocks' decision to wind the club up.
Mr Rennocks announced earlier today (Friday) that he would be stepping down as he could no longer afford to subsidise the club.
As a result, the Ravens have resigned from the Southern Football League.
Now, Cllr Smith says he will speak to the District Council - who Mr Rennocks accused of 'diminished support' in his parting statement.
Cllr Smith said: "I'm saddened to hear that Glyn Rennocks has stood down as chairman of Coalville Town.
"He has been an outstanding chairman and has been central to moving the club forward to where it is today.
"I've spoken at length with Glyn and understand the reasons for his decision and the reasoning behind the club's resignation from the Southern Football League.
"I will be seeking an urgent meeting with the District Council's Chief Executive to discuss the role they can play in maintaining the club's heritage and status."
Cllr Smith is also standing as the Conservative Party candidate at July's General Election.
He added: "Coalville Town Football Club is a huge part of our community and both as the County Council of Coalville, and your member of Parliament, I will work to get the club back to where it is now – a level that Glyn has taken it to – in the not too distant future.
"Above all, I would like to thank Glyn for all that he has done for our town, and its leading football club, over the years."
