A review is to be set up to review Coalville's 'hit and miss' Christmas lights.

At the Coalville Special Expenses Working Party meeting on Wednesday, Cllr Michael Wyatt recommended that a sub-group be set up.

The aim is to 'put on a much better festive show' in the town.

Cllr Wyatt said: "The Christmas lights have been hit and miss for several years.

"We have light columns which no longer work, electric switches tripping and some lights which are near to their end of shelf life.

"We need to look again at what we would like to provide in the town and we need to make sure we are getting value for money.

"We need more investment but without a proper review, we cannot commit to what's needed to improve our festive lights.

"Hopefully, by having all the information on costs and what's required, we can budget for the future so we can put on a much better festive show within our town."

All Members agreed to support Cllr Wyatt's recommendation to set up a review subgroup so plans for 2024 can be discussed.
