A refurb of the outside of the Bingo Hall in Coalville has been given the go-ahead.

The work - some of which has already been completed - is being carried out at the Palace Bingo venue in Jackson Street.

An application to carry out the work was made in May - and consisted of external alterations to front and part side elevations, to include infilling of existing openings, redecoration of existing windows, rendering, re-rendering and painting and repair and redecoration of entrance doors (part retrospective).

The application was made by Peter Woolley, of Warwickshire-based firm 2 Fat Ladies Leisure.

A council officer's report says the building is within the Coalville Conservation Area and is a Local Heritage Asset - formerly the Regal Cinema.

The report adds: "Amended plans were sought and received during the course of the application in order to address concerns raised by the council's Conservation Officer.

"The amended plans show an improved design in line with the Conservation Officer's recommendations.

Work was carried out on the venue earlier this year

"The application description has been amended to reflect the alterations which include omitting the proposed new aluminum entrance doors and new first floor windows.

"Works had commenced at the site including rerendering and painting and infilling of the existing openings. All works have ceased pending the outcome of the application."

The report adds that that the Bingo Hall is considered an 'extremely well preserved landmark' in the town.

It adds: "The application proposes external alterations to front and part side elevations, to include infilling of existing openings, redecoration of windows, rendering, re-rendering and painting and repair and redecoration of existing entrance doors.

"The subject building is extremely well preserved and considered to be a landmark within Coalville.

"The proposals are considered to be improvements to the existing building which would enhance and preserve it and the surrounding area. The Conservation Officer has raised no objection to the proposals."

In conclusion, the report says: "The proposals are not considered to have any significant detrimental conservation, heritage, design or residential amenity impacts.

"There are no other relevant material planning considerations that indicate planning permission should not be granted."
