North West Leicestershire District Council is expected to give an update on the future of the Hermitage Leisure Centre in Whitwick this week.
Local group Coalville C.A.N. is pushing for the building to come under community ownership as a sustainable multi-purpose facility, offering activities complementary to the new leisure centre, with the creation of a Community Wealth Fund recirculating all surpluses back into the area.
The new £22million Whitwick & Coalville Leisure Centre is due to open next summer when the Hermitage Centre will be closed.
Tuesday evening's Council Cabinet meeting is understood to be considering plans for the site.
Coalville C.A.N. has been informed that the Council had appointed consultants to advise on its future, and the group has shared its proposal with councillors.
The group has received a positive response to a recent survey which invited views from the public as to what the Hermitage site could be used for next year.
From that, a report has been compiled for the Council's consultants.
The survey remains open and can be seen HERE.
In the meantime - if you want to get involved, Coalville C.A.N has an event tomorrow (Sunday) - and every Sunday in August - from 12pm at the Lakeside Pavilion.
Details can be found HERE.
The mini railway will be open and there will be inflatable castles and balls to have fun on and in.
Organisers say permission has been granted by the council to use the grass and the Mini Golf which is need of development - with a clean and some repairs!
They are asking for any support with this which would be appreciated.
