North West Leicestershire District Council says that it will no longer collect garden waste or cardboard from homes in the Coalville area.

The council says staffing issues and social distancing measures are behind the withdrawal of the service.

An online message from the council reads: "From Monday we are no longer going to be able to complete our garden waste and cardboard collections across the district.

"We're really sorry – we know these collections are important to you.

"Staffing pressures and the need to do more to help our crews follow social distancing guidance means we need to slim down our service and prioritise black bin and recycling collections - these will continue as normal.

"If you have space, consider setting up a compost heap for your garden waste and cardboard – here's how Guide to Composting

"Thank you for your understanding and the support."
