Coronavirus Cases In North West Leicestershire Show A Significant Drop

Coronavirus cases across North West Leicestershire are steadily decreasing.

Government figures show that, between January 21 and January 27, 306 people had a confirmed positive test result. This shows a decrease of 17.3 per cent compared to the previous seven days

The latest figures released tonight (Thursday, January 28) show that there were 44 new cases in the district which includes Coalville and Ashby.

It means the seven day infection rate for North West Leicestershire is now 337.85 cases per 100,000.

Two weeks ago, the figure was 368.7 cases per 100,000 - and it had gone as high as 400 earlier this month.

But the district is still returning the third highest positive tests per 100,000 in the county, behind Leicester and Blaby.

More than 500 new coronaviruscoronavirus cases have been added to local tolls today.

In Leicester, there were 242 new infections identified, while a further 280 cases were spread across Leicestershire.

Broken down to district and borough level, Charnwood added the most to its rolling toll, with 71.

In North West Leicestershire there were 44 positive test results recorded and in both Blaby and Harborough there were 41 new cases.

Hinckley and Bosworth added 38 to its cumulative count, in Oadby and Wigston there were 26 new cases and 19 in Melton.

The new cases, updated today at 4pm, mean that the total number of cases across the city and county since the start of the pandemic area by area are :

  • Leicester: 29,621
  • Blaby: 5,754
  • Charnwood: 10,077
  • Harborough: 4,137
  • Hinckley and Bosworth: 4,837
  • Melton: 2,143
  • North West Leicestershire: 4,569
  • Oadby and Wigston: 4,203

The latest seven-day infection rates, area by area, are:

  • Leicester: 541.2 cases per 100,000 (1,917 in the last seven days)
  • Blaby: 363.5 cases per 100,000 (369)
  • Charnwood: 284.1 cases per 100,000 (528)
  • Harborough: 296.4 cases per 100,000 (278)
  • Hinckley and Bosworth: 294.3 cases per 100,000 (333)
  • Melton: 226.5 cases per 100,000 (116)
  • North West Leicestershire: 337.8 cases per 100,000 (350)
  • Oadby and Wigston: 303.4 cases per 100,000 (173)
